Apple iPhone 14 and 14 Max rumours: everything we’ve heard

(Pocket Ribbon) – Apple may have already announced an iPhone in 2022, but that isn’t expected to be the only model to arrive before the year is out. Don’t worry, the company has not returned to Touch ID and has ditched the Face ID models. Instead, those models come a little later.

Four iPhone models are expected to be added to the already announced iPhone SE (2022). These would be the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, along with Pro models of these devices. Yes, that means the iPhone mini may be dead this year.

We’ve covered the rumors surrounding the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in a separate post, but here we’re focusing on the stock iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. This is all we’ve heard so far.

Publication date

September 13, 2022?From $799/£779/€909?

Apple usually releases its new flagship iPhone models in September and normally on the second Tuesday of the month. That has been the pattern for a number of years – at least if you ignore 2020.

Assuming Apple continues this strategy, it’s possible that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will be announced on September 13, 2022. Of course nothing has been confirmed yet, and it won’t be for a few months, but that would be the date we would note in the agenda for the time being.

If we’re right, we expect pre-orders for the iPhone 14 models to open on the Friday following their announcement, which would be September 16, and availability will then likely be September 23, 2022. Remember this is just guesswork for now though.

Price-wise, we’d expect the iPhone 14 to start around the same margin as the iPhone 13 at $799 / £779 / €909. We’d expect the iPhone 14 Max to start at around £100/$100/€100 more. cost, as the iPhone 13 Pro Max does compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, and as the iPhone 13 did compared to the iPhone 13 mini. Whether the starting price of the iPhone 14 will drop if there really isn’t a mini model this year remains to be seen, although we doubt that will be the case.

Design

NotchIP68 Rated Flat Edge Design

It is rumored that the Apple iPhone 14 models currently follow a similar design to their predecessors, with a notch at the top of their screen. There have been several reports of the iPhone 14 Pro models having a pill-shaped cutout on the top of their screen, but it is suggested that the standard iPhone 14 models will retain the notch we saw on the iPhone 13 models.

A flat-edge design is expected again for the iPhone 14 models, and it will likely be an aluminum frame with a glass back instead of stainless steel and glass, which is likely for the Pro models.

The iPhone 14 models are also expected to offer IP68 water and dust resistance and will be available in a variety of colors. Some variations are likely to be compared to the 2021 models, although it’s not clear at this point what. Based on some molds, it appears that the rear camera housing looks much the same as the iPhone 13 models.

Display

6.1-inch and 6.7-inch ProMotion displaysNo 5.4-inch model

It is rumored that in 2022 there will be an iPhone 14 and an iPhone 14 Max, instead of an iPhone 14 mini and iPhone 14. It is rumored that the iPhone 14 will have a 6.1-inch screen like the iPhone 13, while the iPhone 14 Max will have a 6.7-inch display, bringing it in line with the iPhone 13 Pro Max model and therefore likely to be the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Reports suggest that the standard models could get Apple’s ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate. It was originally said that Touch ID would be placed below the display to work alongside Face ID, although more recent rumors suggest that won’t be the case this year.

Hardware and Specifications

A15 Bionic, 5G6GB RAM64GB base model?

It has been suggested that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will not get a processor upgrade before 2022, but will remain on the A15 Bionic chip that powers all iPhone 13 models instead of moving to the A16, which the iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to feature.

Reports claim that all iPhone 14 models will have 6GB of RAM and we know they will all be 5G compatible as all iPhones including the entry-level iPhone SE (2022) have been since the iPhone 12 models.

In terms of storage, with the standard iPhone 13 models with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB options, it’s likely the iPhone 14 models will offer the same, although there are some reports that the base model could start at 64GB. .

All iPhone 14 models will no doubt run on iOS 16, which we’re expecting more about at WWDC in June, though you can read our separate feature on it for all the details we know so far.

Cameras

The iPhone 14 cameras have not been rumored for much, although they are expected to feature a dual rear setup just like their predecessors.

The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 have a main camera and an ultra-wide camera, but they lack the telephoto functions on the Pro models, as well as some features. It’s likely that the iPhone 14 models will also offer a main and ultra-wide sensor on the back, but no telephoto sensor, and we would also expect them not to offer the same features as the iPhone 14 Pro models.

For now, though, the details are thin on the ground.
