A new job posting shows Disney is looking for an NFT expert

Entertainment giant Disney is looking for a business development manager to help lead its quest for the red-hot non-fungible token (NFT) space, according to a job posting published earlier this week:

You’ll help lead Disney’s NFT efforts, including monitoring the evolving market, determining category strategy, and managing key partners.

The person hired for the above position will be responsible for “monitoring the evolving market”, strategizing new business opportunities and negotiating key partnerships.

The company headquartered in Burbank, California is specifically seeking a business manager with expertise in the NFT sector.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger recently told The New York Times that there was going to be an explosion in the popularity of NFTs, claiming that things don’t necessarily have to be physical these days:

And as long as that meaning can essentially be substantiated in a blockchain, I think you’re going to see an explosion of things being created, traded, collected in NFTs.

However, Iger expressed concern about rampant piracy within the NFT space.

Last October, Disney partnered with Gochain-based NFT marketplace Veve to promote the Disney+ streaming service using a collection of digital collectibles called “Golden Moments”. Iger complained about seeing “poached” NFTs on the OpenSea marketplace.

Speaking of Disney’s possible entry into the metaverse, Iger predicted that monitoring “toxic” behavior would likely prove to be a major challenge.

Walmart, YouTube and Meta are among the largest companies currently exploring NFTs and Web3.
