Google Chrome lets you mute noisy tabs with one click
Google Chrome makes it easy to see which tab is making noise with the small speaker indicator, but muting the tab always required two clicks. Now, Google is going to change that as the company tests the ability to mute a tab with a single click.
Muting a tab with one click is currently available as a flag in the Canary built from Google Chrome. Since it is a flag, you have to enable it manually. To do this, type chrome://flags into the address bar, then enable the option labeled “Tab Mute UI Controls: When enabled, the audio indicators in the tab strip will double as tab mute controls.”
Once enabled, instead of right-clicking the speaker icon and then muting it, you can simply click the icon once and the tab will be muted.
This isn’t the kind of update that will change your life forever, but it’s a nice change that makes muting a tab that suddenly starts playing music or ads a little faster, which is always nice.
We’re not sure when (or if) this feature will come to the release version of Chrome, but hopefully it will come soon as it’s a nice little change.
