What is expected to happen in Season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy?

Grey’s Anatomy season 17 had a focus on the Covid-19 pandemic, with everyone at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital coping with the crisis, along with the ongoing drama of their daily lives, and pick up where season 16 left off.

It looks like Season 18 will answer some of the open questions from Season 17, and based on the teaser, it looks like there’s going to be a big comeback.

Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is returning for season 18 after confirming it on her Instagram (see below), and Megan Hunt (Abigail Spencer) is also returning.

We also know that a few characters will be missing after their departure in Season 17. No more Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) or Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) after both left for the Catherine Fox Foundation in Boston, and no DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) of course also.

But don’t worry, many of the favorites are still expected, including Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), Link Lincoln (Chris Carmack) , Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr), among others.

Meredith’s mother, Dr. Ellis Gray (Kate Burton), is also making a comeback. Should be interesting considering she was killed in season three.

A season 19 has been confirmed by ABC, so the medical drama will continue.

There have also been talks about a spin-off show after Deadline reported that ABC’s signature President Jonnie Davis said it had been discussed.

The site continued the story with a clarification from Davis, saying: “I’d like to clarify some statements I made in a previous interview. There are no talks about a Grey’s Anatomy spin-off at this time. We are 100 percent focused on producing season 18, with the incredible Krista Vernoff at the helm and the wonderful Ellen Pompeo leading our ensemble and co-executive production. As the leader of ABC Signature, I just wanted to convey my support and optimism for Shonda’s brilliant creation.”
