How to find your Steam Screenshot folder

Whether you’ve captured screenshots of a hilarious glitch or an epic game achievement, you need to know where they’re stored in order to share them. Here’s how to find where Steam hides your screenshots.

Your screenshots are easily accessible from within Steam itself. The only other way to find them is to manually search your hard drive. Steam sorts your screenshots by game, but doesn’t name the folder after the game. Instead it calls the map after the games Application ID – completely unfathomable unless you’re in the habit of remembering the IDs.

How to find your Steam Screenshot folder for each game

The easiest way to find your screenshots is directly through Steam.

Launch Steam, click ‘View’ in the top left corner, then click ‘Screenshots’.

Click the drop-down menu at the top to select a game’s screenshots, then click “Show on Disc.”

The screenshot folder will automatically open in a new window. The path in the address bar is where the screenshots for that game are saved.

The Steam folder itself can be almost anywhere – it all depends on where you installed it. If you installed Steam with the default options, you can find it here:

Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Linux:

~/.local/share/Steam

macOS:

~/Library/Application Support/Steam

How Steam Names Game Folders

Unfortunately, the game folder naming scheme isn’t the most intuitive. By default, every game you have installed through Steam has a separate screenshots subfolder in the Steam folder. The subfolder is located at:

… steam\userdata\\760\remote\\screenshots

The placeholder “” stands for songs associated with your specific Steam account, and “is the game Application ID

There’s no quick way to figure out which game goes with each song, so you just have to poke around until you find the right folder.
