”A mother deserves the highest respect. It’s not always about cash but also the love and respect that we give to someone. My mother has been a huge inspiration to me. I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the biggest salary,” answered a confident Manushi Chhillar before being crowned as the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world. Yes, 17 years after Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World, we finally have another beautiful countrywoman holding the crown, and Ms. Chhillar is a wonderfully deserving winner.
In small Indian towns, beauty pageants are still recognized as the holy grail of the modeling circuit. It is a platform – if you may – that has helped create some of the most larger-than-life personalities who are more than just pretty faces with perfect smiles. It feels like yesterday when iconic millennium beauties – Priyanka Chopra and Lara Bhupati (then Dutta) – won a slew of international beauty pageants in the wake of the great Indian beauty boom. Many say that this victorious juggernaut was exactly in line with India waking up to major Indian international beauty brands, and them investing in our culturally diverse subcontinent.
Having said that, it’s been 17 long years since India has won any major beauty pageant … until now, as mentioned earlier. Manushi – a stunning all-Indian beauty from Haryana, just might have just brought beauty pageants back to the limelight. The effervescent beauty made us all proud by winning the extremely prestigious Miss World 2017 crown. The event was held at Sanya City Arena, in China.
Manushi – who studied at St. Thomas School in Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat – was crowned the 54th Femina Miss India World 2017 earlier this year, and has now conquered the 67th edition of Miss World. Her win comes as a sweet surprise for us all. We simply can’t wait to see what she does next.
