Litecoin creator Charlie Lee believes Dogecoin played a role in pushing crypto into the mainstream

During a recent Bloomberg interview, Litecoin creator Charlie Lee said that Dogecoin is “great” and “pretty fun”.

He claims that the biggest meme cryptocurrency is ready to take a lot of people into space.

Lee also praised centibillionaire Elon Musk for turning cryptocurrencies into “a mainstream topic”.

Dogecoin was launched in December 2013 as a fork of the now-defunct Litecoin fork called “Lucky Coin”.

The parody coin quickly became popular, but its mainstream breakthrough didn’t happen until 2021.

Lee, who infamously sold his Litecoin stock on the brink of the big crash in early 2018 and faced insider trading allegations, says Bitcoin is his biggest asset right now. He refuses to invest in his brainchild because he wants to focus on the technical aspects of the project without worrying about how they might affect the price of the coin.

A privacy-focused upgrade

Litecoin, one of the oldest altcoins, is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that appeared all the way back in 2011.

The OG cryptocurrency recently made headlines after the launch of the much-hyped Mimblewimble upgrade initially announced in 2019. Named after a tongue-in-cheek spell from the Harry Potter universe, it allows users to enhance their financial privacy through transactional privacy. hide information.

Lee says people can spend money without worrying about privacy issues as the amount of each transaction is visible only to the sender and recipient.

Litecoin remains the 22nd largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
