Plugin partners with inclusive growth chain to implement the ‘Project Pollution Check’

The Plugin and Inclusive Growth Chain have teamed up to implement the ‘Project Pollution Check’. The Pollution Check is intended to collect and tabulate data on air pollution. And help end-users, such as air purifier manufacturers, brokers and environmental consultants, in both the public and private sectors.

In this context, let’s explore the Plugin and Inclusive Growth Chain partnership and how the resulting blockchain-based responses will help improve real-time tracking of air pollutants and facilitate the development of specific blockchain outcomes.

Today, poor air quality is one of the most critical public health concerns around the world. Exposure to polluted air causes more than 6.6 million premature deaths each year and accounts for nearly 8% of the global burden of disease. In addition, exposure to air pollutants extends far beyond respiratory diseases. Research shows links between air pollution and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and more recently the health outcomes of COVID-19.

Although air quality is a global sustainability problem with varying severity and impacts in different countries, there is a need for new approaches to manage the problem. One approach to the problem is technology. By using technology, factors that put pressure on air quality can be eliminated.

On that note, blockchain technology and its new use cases are leading the way in helping to track air pollution in real time using data feeds from authoritative off-chain sources.

Plugin & Inclusive Growth Chain: who they are and what they offer

Plug in is a decentralized oracle platform that cost efficient solutions to smart contracts running on the XDC Network Ecosystem. The new solution aims to provide cost-effective solutions to users who need reliable data on their smart contracts. And because it’s a fork of Chainlink open source technology built to XDC Network Blockchain EcosystemPlugin enables smart contracts to communicate seamlessly with the outside world and store data collected from trusted partners. Plug-in guarantees dedicated support, reliable data feeds, rigorously tested quality platform and enterprise-grade service level agreements.

On the other hand, Inclusive Growth Chain (IGC) is an integrated blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning platform that seeks to address social and environmental issues. Recently, the organization won the top prize for creating a blockchain-enabled platform that collects air pollution data with high accuracy and at minimal cost. The platform also partners with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in India to redistribute profits across the value chain to farmers.

Plug-in: inclusive partnership for growth chain

Through the Plugin-IGC partnership, the entities will work on the implementation of the “Project Pollution Check”. Given the benefits to be gained from the project’s launch, it has been touted as a more impactful decentralized application on the XDC network, leveraging PLI.

So, what is “Project Pollution Control”?

Pollution Control is a blockchain-enabled use case that allows real-time tracking and tracing of air pollution. Conceptualized by IGC, the project proposes to collect real-time data on air pollution so that users with health problems or allergies related to air pollution can make the right decisions. It is worth noting that the solution will be available to users around the world.

In this project, the plugin will act as: an oracle service to bridge the data (air pollutants) from the outside world to a decentralized application. In addition, the air pollution tracking and detection application will target end-users such as real estate suppliers and developers, real estate buyers, air purifiers, and government agencies charged with protecting the environment.

For property providers and developers, pollution controls help them decide where to build homes that meet their clients’ demands air quality index (AQI) requirements. This can also help in real estate pricing, i.e. areas with lower AQIs can get a premium compared to those with significantly higher AQIs.

Pollution check, on the other hand, helps property buyers determine – in real time – the pollution levels in an area before making purchase decisions. To illustrate: Pollution check helps families with children and elderly members avoid buying or renting homes in areas with high carbon monoxide levels in the air.

Air purifiers will also use the solution. With accurate data on pollution in different locations, air purification companies can tailor their services and offer models that are most effective for specific regions. This will help reduce air pollution issues for customers in various locations.

Government agencies charged with protecting the environment can use Pollution-check to pass laws on appropriate mechanisms to reduce air pollution. For example, government agencies can introduce policies to promote the increase in electronic vehicles. This helps to reduce air pollution from diesel and petrol engines.

That said, what other areas will the Plugin and IGC partnership cover?

Well, besides “project pollution control”, IGC and Plugin are also planning to collaborate on other solutions in the Private & Public Blockchain space. IGC will also leverage expertise in big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence upon request, strengthening Plugin’s technology landscape.

Also, the plugin tries to get IGC on board as a masternode operator according to the MOU. This will be done after consultation with the respective members of the network community.

While air pollution remains a major problem worldwide, the introduction of new technologies through the PLI-IGC partnership offers the potential to mitigate and reverse some of the resulting impacts. For example, the start of “Pollution check” offers significant potential in reducing air pollution problems. By enabling real-time monitoring of air pollution levels in different locations, the solution empowers end users such as real estate providers and developers, real estate buyers, air purifiers and government agencies to make appropriate decisions.

In addition, the PLI-IGC partnership helps leverage each company’s capabilities to increase their respective capabilities.
