Public testnet of Shiba Inu’s Layer 2 solution to launch “very soon”
in a recent Medium blog postUnification Foundation, a provider of blockchain solutions for enterprises, has announced that a public testnet of Shibarium, a layer 2 scaling solution for the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency, will be released “very soon”.
The second version of Shibarium’s private testnet has already been launched.
In December, developer Eric M tweeted that Shibarium cannot be “silently removed”, adding that there are some things that needed to be done. Before that, he assured the community that the long-awaited scaling solution would be launched soon.
Shiba Inu developers have not developed a definitive timeline for the project, as they “do not guarantee success”. This inevitably led to some concern that Shibarium’s launch would be delayed “indefinitely”
Since Shiba Inu is an ERC-20 token on top of the Ethereum blockchain, it suffers from high gas costs that are prohibitive for many newbies. This is exactly why many expect Shibarium to be a game-changer for one of the leading dog coins, as transactions may become much faster and cheaper. Thus, Shiba Inu is optimized for gaming.
At press time, a single trade on Ethereum costs 86 gwei ($4.29), which is a major hurdle to wider adoption.
Ryoshi, the pseudonymous founder of the Shiba Inu token, has announced that Bone ShibaSwap (BONE) will be used as Shibarium’s primary pair token.
They also made it clear that there would be no source of interference, and emphasized that the layer 2 solution would adhere to the principles of decentralization.
The developers of Shiba Inu are also planning to develop an algorithmic stablecoin called SHI that will work on both Ethereum and Shibarium.
