SpaceX’s Starlink Premium tier offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps

(Pocket Ribbon) – Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, is introducing a faster tier called Starlink Premium, which targets “small offices, storefronts and super users around the world”.

First announced by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, the new offering features a larger high-performance antenna and claims speeds between 150 Mbps and 500 Mbps (20 ms to 40 ms latency). In comparison, the standard tier offers speeds from 50 Mbps to 250 Mbps (20 ms to 40 ms latency). Premium would also double upload speeds to 20 Mbps to 40 Mbps, compared to 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps for the standard tier. In addition to faster speeds, Starlink claims that its Premium service will perform better in “extreme weather conditions”.

Premium customers even get access to 24/7 support.

But those speeds and benefits don’t come for free. Of course, Starlink Premium is priced, well, very premium. The high-end tier costs $2,500 for the antenna and $500 per month for service, while the standard Starlink service is just $499 for the hardware and $99 per month. There is also a $500 deposit to reserve a Premium dish. You can expect deliveries in the second quarter of 2022.
