Facial recognition has grown in popularity in retail over the past decade. By reducing theft and creating a safer shopping experience, this technology helps prevent product loss in stores. Just seeing a camera is enough to deter someone from stealing. When someone steals from a store, it’s often because they’ve done it before; facial recognition software makes it easy to recognize these people and view them as they enter the store.

Phones and social media are two of the major changes in facial recognition use. Facebook started using this technology in 2010 to identify individuals in photos published on the site. Millions of images are posted every day and Facebook may recommend tagging people based on facial recognition in its database. In addition, the face unlock feature was first offered on Android 4 in 2011, but it didn’t launch then because it saved a face as a 2D image, which was unsafe.
