Wyze discontinues its first security camera, suggests customers upgrade India News, The Indian Express

Nearly five years after its launch, the Wyze Cam v1 will be discontinued on February 1. Wyze will no longer “sell, improve or service” the camera, noting that customers should upgrade to ensure their smart home network remains secure from hackers.

Wyze says it is discontinuing its original security camera because it “cannot support a necessary security update.” While we’re disappointed by the sudden change, it’s clear Wyze has no choice here. Smart home cameras are a prime target for hackers, so Wyze can’t omit key security solutions from its “supported” devices.

You will still be able to use your Wyze Cam v1 after this date, but as stated in our End of Life Policy, Wyze will no longer sell, improve or service Wyze Cam v1.

The original Wyze Cam will always hold a special place in our hearts and we want to take a moment to say thank you. You have chosen to support our very first product at Wyze. You put us on the map. You allowed us to pursue our mission to democratize technology… And now look at us.

You can continue to use the Wyze Cam v1, but this will leave you vulnerable to hacking attempts. For that reason, Wyze suggests upgrading all of your Wyze Cam v1 units. We agree: making your security cameras vulnerable to hackers is a terrible idea.

Thank you so much for supporting Wyze’s very first product. As a thank you, here’s a coupon good for $3 off your next Wyze Cam!

If you are using a Wyze Cam v1, you should have a $3 coupon for a new Wyze Cam in your email inbox. This coupon works for any model from Wyze Cambut if you want a direct replacement for your Cam v1, I recommend getting the Wyze Cam v3.

The Wyze Cam v3 is a pretty substantial upgrade over its predecessors. It features a new Starlite sensor for Color Night Vision, simultaneous two-way audio, and a wider 130-degree field of view with smoother 20 FPS video during the day.

But if you want a battery-powered surveillance camera, the Wyze Cam Outdoor is your best choice. It lasts three to six months on a charge and includes most of the features of the Wyze Cam v3, including simultaneous two-way traffic.
